I wish to declare Britain as lost

I have written in the past about some of the injustices in Britain when it comes to self defense in one’s own home. In this most recent incident, a heavily pregnant woman (about 7 mos) was raped at shotgun point with a boyfriend there. But wait… shotguns and handguns are illegal and only should be in possession of the law enforcement in Britain? If only they had been allowed to protect themeselves. Well putting this aside, they have invested hundreds of millions of dollars in CCTV cameras so they can watch every citizen and catch the bad guys, right? They have one picture of some “people of interest”, but no solid suspects. I am sorry, but this is a big bag of FAIL.
Despite the desperate pleas of her boyfriend who begged them not to harm the mother-to-be, she was forced to perform a sex act by the masked man, who threatened to shoot the couple if she did not follow his orders.

Police decided to offer the reward after failing to trace the gang. They have released images of three men caught on CCTV at a nearby shop a few minutes before the attack, whom they wish to question.
But wait… the insanity gets much worse. With all the crime they DO have right now, what are the Police doing to stop all of it? How about arrest a father of four because his trash lid was ajar more than 4in because they only pick it up once every fourth night? Sure, why not! Jesus, they even wore “stab proof vests”, took a week’s wages from him as a fine, and he was even forced to pay a victim surcharge fine… which is amazing since the only victim was him and his family.
Magistrates convicted the 26-year-old bus driver after hearing evidence that the lid was four inches ajar, which is against rules to stop bins overflowing.

He was ordered to pay £210 – a week’s wages – after he declined to pay an on-the-spot fine imposed by the local council’s bin police, who visited him wearing stab-proof vests and carrying photographic evidence of his crime.
I’m sorry, but the number of incidents like this and others is piling up and there are too many, on such a small island, to say these are just isolated incidents. For all our problems, all our differences, it is when I read about stuff like this that I pat my 1911 and thank God I’m in America.

So who’s to say that they were in an economic situation to afford to buy a firearm? Why does the situation preclude them from “protecting themselves” with a tire-iron, a scottish claymore, steel-toe boots, or whatever else? Don’t assume that firearms are the only means to protect oneself (and please don’t try to argue that firearms are the only effective means of defense, that’s BS and you know it) or that the only reason to own a firearm is to shoot people who break into your house. Just 2 weeks ago a guy in england successfully “defended his home” with a Katana, killing a would-be robber (who was armed). Google it, you’ll love the story.
That being said, every country has some problems with law-enforcement … some people are dumb … any group of people will have some that are dumb … law enforcement is made up of people, and thus will have some that are dumb …
Again, while I agree with the intent of your post (outlawing firearms is stupid) the motivation is upside down here. Wanting firearms out of paranoia and fear is bad, just as bad as the redneck who reaches for his gun everytime he wakes up in the middle of the night and hears a rustle in the bushes… he’s looking for an excuse to shoot something, and that’s no good at all. “Cuz I have to defend my home against the unending legion of home invaders waiting at the doorstep!” is .. well .. unbalanced.

The problem is Briton’s have been prosecuted in numerous cases where robber breaks in and are beaten with a baseball bat, tire iron, or scottish claymore (which are cool BTW), at which the homeowner faces serious fines and prosecution from their own gov’t because in Briton, right now, you have NO right to defend yourself with any kind of weapon. Since their firearms reform act of 1920, this right has steadily eroded. Some interesting links to digest:

Those are just a few. I agree the problems are with law enforcement (I miss the term “peace officers”)… politicians who enact these stupid laws and promote false sense of security… and let us not forget the stupid criminals in the first place. They are the one’s breaking in in the first place.
What you call paranoia and fear, I call being prepared. I don’t reach for my safe everytime I wake up, but when I hear shouts and fighting happening outside my place, then yea, I have it close by when I call police for help. I have to ask a question, if someone does break into your home (Nashua at last check isn’t free of crime and neither is Manchester), are you going to hesitate and order him to freeze? Are you going to fire a warning shot or try to wound him? Nobody wants to take a life, but let’s face the fact here, the guy broke into your home ILLEGALLY. You do not know if he is armed, high on PCP, or bat shit crazy. You do not shoot to kill, you shoot to stop a threat. If one shot send him running, the threat is over. If just the sight of your gun causes him to surrender, you don’t shoot. Nobody is looking to kill anyone, and that analogy just perpetuates the painting of all gun owners as loonies looking to kill someone.
I WILL NOT BE A VICTIM.
My point to all this is simple. People NEED to have the means to protect themselves. Whether it’s a firearm, katana, tire iron, or M65 recoilless nuclear rifle because in the end, laws will NOT stop criminals. Politicians will not stop the next home invasion. All police can do is pick up the pieces or council the rape victim.
… and the unending legions are not home invaders, but the undead which we must be ready to protect ourselves against because Z-day could come at anytime!

You can buy a Hi-point 9mm 8+1 handgun for 150$ new in the box. I don’t think inability to afford a handgun for self defense is the problem in the UK.
