I wish to declare Britain as lost

by CmdrFenix on Sep.30, 2009, under General

I have written in the past about some of the injustices in Britain when it comes to self defense in one’s own home. In this most recent incident, a heavily pregnant woman (about 7 mos) was raped at shotgun point with a boyfriend there. But wait… shotguns and handguns are illegal and only should be in possession of the law enforcement in Britain? If only they had been allowed to protect themeselves. Well putting this aside, they have invested hundreds of millions of dollars in CCTV cameras so they can watch every citizen and catch the bad guys, right? They have one picture of some “people of interest”, but no solid suspects. I am sorry, but this is a big bag of FAIL.

Despite the desperate pleas of her boyfriend who begged them not to harm the mother-to-be, she was forced to perform a sex act by the masked man, who threatened to shoot the couple if she did not follow his orders.

Police decided to offer the reward after failing to trace the gang. They have released images of three men caught on CCTV at a nearby shop a few minutes before the attack, whom they wish to question.

But wait… the insanity gets much worse. With all the crime they DO have right now, what are the Police doing to stop all of it? How about arrest a father of four because his trash lid was ajar more than 4in because they only pick it up once every fourth night? Sure, why not! Jesus, they even wore “stab proof vests”, took a week’s wages from him as a fine, and he was even forced to pay a victim surcharge fine… which is amazing since the only victim was him and his family.

Magistrates convicted the 26-year-old bus driver after hearing evidence that the lid was four inches ajar, which is against rules to stop bins overflowing.

He was ordered to pay £210 – a week’s wages – after he declined to pay an on-the-spot fine imposed by the local council’s bin police, who visited him wearing stab-proof vests and carrying photographic evidence of his crime.

I’m sorry, but the number of incidents like this and others is piling up and there are too many, on such a small island, to say these are just isolated incidents. For all our problems, all our differences, it is when I read about stuff like this that I pat my 1911 and thank God I’m in America.

Lovely advise

by CmdrFenix on Sep.22, 2009, under Political Discussion

The right of self defense is one of the most important rights we have today. The ability to choose the best means of defense for ones own self is one of the so-called “protected” rights in the US Constitution. I say so-called because there are a few states that do everything within their power to restrict people from obtaining firearms as a means of self default. You’ve all read my rants about the state of MA. Illinois is another state that restricts this freedom, and in some ways is even worse than the state of MA. In IL, you need a Firearm Owners ID card even to buy ammunition. They have a total ban on conceal carry, and a very narrow view of self defense. If you have a few minutes, take a run over to the Illinois State Police website and check out what they suggest rape victims should do in their state.

Let’s look at some of their suggestions and believe me, I wish I was making this stuff up.

Fighting for your safety may be necessary. However, if you start out fighting you cancel any other options that might be open to you. Since many attacks on women are not sexually motivated, and are designed to degrade and humiliate, talking your way out of it may be easier.

* There is documentation of assailants that left a would-be-victim alone after she told him that she was pregnant and it would kill her baby. (Some case were women that were too old to even have a baby.)
* Telling an attacker that you have VD or AIDS can discourage him.
* It may sound disgusting, but putting your fingers into you throat and making yourself vomit usually gets results. (This method is not often used except as a last resort.)
* Use your imagination and you can think of others.

The above methods are particularly important if your assailant has a gun or knife, or there is more than one attacker. (Fighting would probably be futile.)

I don’t even know what they would say in regards to having a woman say she was pregnant. That one has me at a loss for words, but tell them you have a VD or STD? I can hear the perp’s response now, “Don’t worry so do I…” and now what is she to do? Oh yea, how about vomit on them!? It seems the state of Illinois has been assimilated by the Borg because their response seems to be fighting back would be futile so you should submit. Every person has the right to protect themselves from serious bodily harm with whatever effective means they need.

Your rights … have been suspended.

by CmdrFenix on Sep.17, 2009, under Political Discussion

Those ominous words come from Shreveport, Louisiana Mayor Cedric Glover. During a discussion with a motorist who was stopped for not using his directional, the motorist was polite and cooperative with the police officer, but ended up having his legally owned sidearm (with permit) secured by the officer and IMHO his rights violated. If this was just one incident, I would shrug it off as a bad day for that dept, but there is much more. Check out the article over at Pro Libertate, as he goes in depth about the incident and the part that caused me to write this article.

Any time a motorist is stopped by a police officer, insists Shreveport, Louisiana Mayor Cedric Glover, “Your rights … have been suspended.” This includes not only the freedom of movement, but also, in the event the officer inquires as to whether the driver is carrying a weapon, “Your right to be able to hold on to your weapon and say whether [you] have a weapon or not” — as well as the right to retain possession of that weapon, should the officer decide to confiscate it from you.

Yep, you just read that correctly, but the Mayor didn’t finish with that gem. He had much more to add.

Police officers, according to Glover, are invested with “a power that the President of the United States does not have … and that is the ability to be able to suspend your rights.”

This is “one of the things that I say to each and every one of the police officers who graduates from the Shreveport Police Academy since I’ve been mayor.” Fortunately for the public, one supposes, Mr. Glover remembers the lesson that Peter Parker learned from his kindly and sagacious uncle Ben — that is, with great power comes great responsibility. “You have to understand there is a great deal of power that is vested within … the law enforcement personnel of this country,” Glover insists. “It’s why there is a great deal of responsibility that has to go along with it.”

This wasn’t just a bad apple here, but a dept who was instructed in the misuse of their authority. There seems to be this myth going around that just being in possession of a gun is a danger to everyone around you, or that guns in the hands of police are the only way to stop gun violence. It doesn’t matter if you’ve had a safety course, practice on it regularly, or have never committed a crime in your life. As far as some of the anti-gun groups go, everyone should be disarmed for their own protection.

This Mayor Glover is also a member of the “Mayors Against Illegal Guns”, which was supposed to be about getting rid of illegal weapons in major cities, but many of the policies this group supports seem to show a different agenda. It has been losing members rapidly for misrepresenting their positions and infringing on legal gun owners rights. Some of the resignations from this group include such remarks as:

Patricia Shontz (R) of Madeira Beach, Florida wrote,

“I am withdrawing because I believe the MAIG is attempting to erode all gun ownership, not just illegal guns. Additionally, I have learned that the MAIG may be working on issues which conflict with legal gun ownership.” She goes on to add, “It appears the MAIG has misrepresented itself to the Mayors of America and its citizens. This is gun control, not crime prevention.”

… and these statements come from both sides of the isle.

Mayor Josh Nowotarski (D) of Mount Penn, Pennsylvania, who wrote,

“I recently learned of the misrepresentations of the group and regret having joined in the first place.”

I am VERY glad to live here in NH where there is a very tolerant view of gun ownership. I have had a few encounters with Police for such things as traffic infringement, etc… At no point was I anything but respectful, and as a result they showed it back. I was also never searched and never had my sidearm confiscated. Now across the border in MA, that would be a different story, but that is why I also avoid going into that state if I can. If you live in Shreveport, Louisiana… write about this. Pass the word around, or feel free to move up to a cooler climate!

Can someone shutup Jimmy Carter?

by CmdrFenix on Sep.16, 2009, under Political Discussion

OK, sorry for the lack of posts. Work has been extremely busy lately and it has been taking my time on the weekends too. I finally got my first vacation in about 4-5 years last week and I just vegged out and took day trips. I will be posting more though now that I’m back in the swing. Have about 5 draft posts I need to finish. :(

So anyway, Rep Wilson was an idiot who hollered out “Liar” to the Pres Obama. Now I do not support a gov’t run health insurance plan because of reasons of funding and their lack of mandate to do so, but his comment as directed at the President’s statement that “illegal immigrants wouldn’t receive any benefits” was (as the bill is written) false. Now the question of if this bill if this is followed if it gets passed is another topic all together. How will they determine legitimacy is relevant discussion, but another topic. Now we all know everyone congress has a habit of not reading bills (*cough* stimulus *cough*), but even I was irked by this statement because in HR 3200 it says this explicitly.

SEC. 246. NO FEDERAL PAYMENT FOR UNDOCUMENTED ALIENS.

Nothing in this subtitle shall allow Federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States.

I have no problems calling him a liar where it’s warranted. As written this was a true statement. I still do not support it and will continue to fight it, but please… can the people who are elected to positions of power PLEASE PLEASE read the fraking bills?

Now how does Jimmy Carter fit in all this? Does any of this at all sound like racism? No. Jimmy Carter seems to think so

Former President Jimmy Carter said Tuesday that U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson’s outburst to President Barack Obama during a speech to Congress last week was an act “based on racism” and rooted in fears of a black president.

How the hell… Are you kidding me? Just because he can’t convince people this is a good idea, our disagreement it’s because “he’s black”. We all know he has a great history in regards to racially charged issues too, but I think I can safely say this isn’t one of them.
