Full body scanning coming to an airport near you?

by CmdrFenix on May.21, 2009, under Political Discussion

I honestly hope not. If this bill from Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) passes we’ll have a choice when we go to the airport. I’ve read other articles about this, and the technology gives me pause. I’m sorry, but a strip search each time I go to the airport? How much dignity or personal rights are we willing to give up to be safer? At what point do the terrorist win?

The images offer a disturbingly accurate view of a person’s body underneath clothing, even allowing Transportation Security Administration officials to distinguish gender or see the sweat on a person’s back. Americans should not be required to expose their bodies in this manner in order to fly.

I couldn’t agree more. We shouldn’t need to bear all in order to fly. Why not have armed air marshals on flights? Why not allow pilots to carry firearms? I can think of a dozen less intrusive ways we could be safer on planes without exposing myself to some “only one” at the TSA. You know what of those “only ones” we can trust to protect us and keep us safe.

I see where this all is heading…

I’m totally with you on this, those scanners are a massive over-response and an insane invasion of privacy.

Fear, as a motivation for “security” policy, sucks ass.
