Freedom

Many of us take this word for granted, but it’s something we can never forget. Freedom is fragile. The freedom to speak our mind, the freedom to own and carry guns, and the freedom to be free in our own home are just a few, but these freedoms are slipping away. There was an instance in CA where a home owner dressed a mannequin up as Sarah Palin and hung it from a tree. People were shocked and dismayed, and the authorities did nothing.

A Halloween decoration showing a mannequin dressed as vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin hanging by a noose from the roof of a West Hollywood home is drawing giggles from some passers-by and gasps of outrage from others.

I read another article where they even went so far as to drive tour buses by it!

Now let’s look on the other spectrum…

A sign erected by a northern Idaho landowner that advertises a “free public hanging” of President-elect Barack Obama and several other political figures is being investigated by the U.S. Secret Service.

As far as I am concerned they were both constitutionally protected freedoms of speech. I may or may not agree with it… Hell, I’d personally like to take all of congress and banish them to an isolated island in the next season of survivor, but that is just me. The question I have is why did the Secret Service not treat that situation with the mannequin in the same way as they did the other instance?

The speaker picked a television show with a viewership of 4.6 million to float the Democrats’ coming gun-control push. Questioned on ABC’s “Good Morning America” about the prospect of new gun-control laws now that “it’s a Democratic president, a Democratic House,” she responded, “We don’t want to take their guns away. We want them registered.”

Oh you do huh? In every country that has removed it’s citizens right to keep and bear arms, registration was always the first step. I don’t even need to look to Europe for an example of that, but just to our north in Canada, where the registration and later banning of firearms has only increased violent crime.

“By comparing the data,” he detailed, “we found that the violent crime rate in the United States was 475 per 100,000 population, while up north, there were 963 violent crimes per 100,000 population. The figure for sexual assault in Canada per 100,000 population is more than double that of the United States, 74 as opposed to 32.1, and the assault rate in Canada is also more than twice that of the states, 746 to our 295 for the population rate.”

I could bring up stats for the UK, but to be honest when ever I look at them and then at all the articles from that country where homeowners are being prosecuted for defending their own homes, I feel a sickness in my stomach. I take that feeling of sickness as a warning to the rest of us here. Do you want to know why I fight so hard against anything that takes ANY liberty away? Simply put, there is no fall back from here. No other place in this world where I can go and be as free as I am now. I will leave you today with this video to think about.
